EAZA Zoo Nutrition Conference 2025

EAZA Zoo Nutrition Conference 2025

Every other year in January the wildlife nutrition community comes together somewhere in Europe. This year it was in the Netherlands, hosted by the world famous primate park Apenheul. The aim of these meetings is to exchange ideas and discuss the latest in the science of wildlife nutrition, a fundamental part of providing good care and welfare for animals in human care.

This year’s talks ranged from great apes to invertebrates and from formulating diets to understanding vitamins and minerals. The agenda was packed with useful knowledge and the breaks were filled with intense discussions, both as a follow up to the talks and on similar topics.

We attended the conference again this year, and had great discussions about our work on vitamin D deficiency in great apes, and the importance of fibre in the diet for gorillas and other herbivorous animals.
