Wilder International works on protecting and enhancing wildlife habitats in Diamond Jubilee woodlands near the river Soar.
Our previous wildlife surveyed showed both tawny and barn owls were present in the woodlands. However, the area, as many others in the UK, lacks veteran trees with the natural hollows these birds rely on for shelter and breeding. To support these species, we have recently installed nest boxes for them. Nest boxes provide opportunities for birds when natural hollows are not available, and are readily used by many species, including owls.
