On the 18th and 19th of April Wilder International ran a weekend of tree guard removal events at Diamond Jubilee woodland in Sutton Bonington. As part of a larger strategy to improve the health and biodiversity of these woodlands, all of the tree guards that were used to protect saplings when the woodland was planted 14 years ago needed to be removed before they began to degrade into the soil.
We were able to make a start on this last year and removed over 3,000 tree guards from the first of the two woodlands located on Soar Lane. Thanks to last weekend’s incredible effort by over 60 community and student volunteers all of the remaining tree guards were removed and processed for recycling, leaving the woodland plastic free!
Later on in the year we will be starting on the second woodland so watch this space for more news and opportunities to get involved.
