Sharing Knowledge to Improve Primate Welfare: Wilder International at the PASA Workshop

Wilder International’s Director, Lorraine Miller recently attended the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA) Primate Welfare Workshop in Barcelona, Spain joining representatives from primate sanctuaries across Africa to share knowledge, exchange experiences and explore ways to improve the care and welfare of primates.

The workshop brought together people working directly with primates in sanctuary settings, providing an opportunity to discuss the challenges, share practical experience and build knowledge and skills across the sanctuary community.

As part of the workshop, Lorraine delivered a presentation on Integrating Infant Chimpanzees, exploring how carefully managed introductions can support their welfare.

Social relationships are an important part of chimpanzee care. For young chimpanzees, opportunities to develop appropriate relationships and socialise with others can play an important role in their wellbeing. Sharing experiences and approaches between sanctuaries can help caregivers make informed decisions about how best to support individual animals.

Sharing Knowledge and Building Capacity

Supporting the people who care for wildlife is an important part of Wilder International’s work. We provide practical support, advice and training to wildlife organisations, sanctuaries and rescue centres helping to build knowledge and improve animal care and welfare.

Workshops and conferences such as the PASA Primate Welfare Workshop provide valuable opportunities to bring people together, share specialist knowledge and learn from the experiences of others.

By encouraging collaboration and sharing practical expertise, we can help support the organisations working directly with wildlife and contribute to better welfare outcomes for the animals in their care.

At Wilder International, we believe that sharing knowledge is an important part of creating lasting improvements for wildlife.
