Rewilding in Sutton Bonington

Wilder International has joined forces with the Sutton Bonington Climate Crisis and Biodiversity Action group in the East Midlands, UK to support the management of the Sutton Bonington Nature Reserve and surrounding woodlands.

This project will see a two-phase approach to improving the biodiversity in the reserve including an assessment and implementation stage. Wildlife and ecological monitoring techniques are being used to assess the species residing within the varying habitats in the reserve, as well as to assess the health of the habitats and their needs for improvement. One tool we are utilizing is our camera trap monitoring program, made possible by our supporter, Nature Spy. We have been utilizing a range of these cameras to monitor different habitats, assess their inhabitants, and engage with the local community.

Once an assessment of the reserve and surrounding woodlands has been completed we will be starting to implement suggested changes to benefit the wildlife in this area, from simple additions such as nest boxes and hibernaculums to more complex ecological restoration of floodplain meadows and river banks. This project will see Wilder International and the local community banding together to improve the biodiversity of this ecologically rich region.
