Providing appropriate species-specific nutrition to apes in human care is vitally important in ensuring their health, welfare and in the case of rehabilitated apes due for release, their survival success.
Wilder International are committed to supporting veterinarians and wildlife caregivers working in sanctuaries and rescue centers in Asia and Africa. By creating bespoke, easy to use, digital courses on appropriate nutrition of apes undergoing rehabilitation or long term care, we can provide ape caregivers with the tools they need to give their animals the best chance to thrive, either in their long-term sanctuary homes or back out in the wild.
Our series of courses will focus on gorilla, chimpanzee, orangutan and gibbon nutrition, highlighting topics such as creating and altering an appropriate diet, hand rearing and life stage nutrition, social feeding, nutrition related illnesses and ailments, promoting species specific behaviours through feeding and much more.
These content for these courses are underway with the African ape courses being made available in late spring/early summer 2026 with the Asian ape courses following before the end of the year.
This project is being made possible through funding contributed by the Qato Foundation.
