We work in collaboration with Animals Asia, an organisation devoted to ending bear bile farming and improving the welfare of animals across Asia. This incredible organisation has been rescuing bears from lives of cruelty and giving them the safety and care they deserve. Through their sanctuaries, education and policy change, they are focused on building a kinder world for animals across Asia through their three key projects.
Ending bear bile farming in Vietnam
Despite it now being illegal in Asia, bear bile farming still continues due to ongoing demand, legal bear ownership and limited enforcement. For decades, bears across Asia have been confined to tiny cages, their bile painfully extracted for use in traditional medicine. Animals Asia is working to end the practice for good by rescuing the remaining surviving bears, investigating illegal activity and reducing demand to bring about a truly bear bile farming free Vietnam.
Captive animal welfare
Animals Asia works with governments and animal facilities to raise captive animal welfare standards and push for policy reform. One of their key aims is to create a future where animals in the wild and in captivity are respected and protected. Animals Asia is working with governments, shelters and communities to improve animal welfare, enforce existing laws, and change attitudes through education. Together, we’re creating a more compassionate, safer world where cats and dogs are respected and protected.
Over the 25 years Animals Asia have been in operation, they have rescued over 700 bears, 19 elephants and supported over 100,000 dogs and cats. The organisation runs three world-class bear sanctuaries in Vietnam and China, where rescued bears can live in safe, peaceful havens surrounded by lush forests and mountains.
Wilder International is proud to be supporting Animals Asia to progress animal welfare of rescued wildlife. Animals Asia have recently joined our camera trap monitoring program to enable them to monitor their bears and elephant’s overnight. This information will help their wildlife care staff to highlight any potential factors contributing to stress during evening hours, when keepers may not be present. Wilder International are also supporting Animal Asia in designing a 24/7 welfare plan for their rescued bears, promoting a high standard of welfare around the clock.
